Surprises! Last lily to bloom in the garden was a showstopper!! Cannas seem to be putting on more bloom stalks. And, I am discovering that hydrangeas survive in our area! I have been watching some YouTube garden shows from colder climates…one in the PNW, and a wonderful one from Makcinaw Island…a zone 4 with harsh cold windy conditions of Lake Michigan. Seeley Lake is a zone 4, leaning towards a zone 5. If I plan this right, I can expand my garden perennials, shrubs, bulb selections. Micro climates play a big part in the garden. Full sun areas are few, partial shade and full shade are most common.
Coming soon: design plans for full sun East Glacier Garden in the back 40…using ideas from the large garden at East Glacier Hotel in GNP. Wild Geese Nursery in Kalispell supply the perennials for that garden, so a shopping trip will be a spring event! Construction of the garden will take place this coming spring!
