New rose from 1890!

130 year old rose, abandoned along I-90 in Missoula Montana.  It was part of a garden next to a 1890s historic home that was torn down many years ago for freeway, hospital development. What survived was a massive hardy  yellow rose, probably a Harison Rose, cultivated in 1824 in NYC and brought West by many settlers during the Gold Rush.  It can be found all over the west and along pioneer trails like the Oregon Trail.

We took cuttings and hopefully we can add it to our garden!  It tolerates poor soils and a variety of conditions and is a zone 4 rose.

Spring 2025-April
